Public Speaking App

About

Our client, B2 Ventures, had the vision to create a digital application across platforms and devices that would help professionals, students, and others overcome their anxiety with public speaking.

Challenge

While a digital application would allow for private practice and training, it also needed to include an audience that would react based on the speaker’s performance of a speech. This was critical to include because the audience is one of the main causes of anxiety for speakers.

Solution

Quantilus designed and developed Mike, an app that students and professionals can use to practice and improve public speaking and communication skills via a computer or mobile phone. Mike’s sequential approach utilizes the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which has proven to be a highly effective method of overcoming anxiety and achieving mastery. CBT works in part by breaking up anxiety-provoking activities into more manageable, sequential steps.

The core principle behind the app is that with consistent practice and feedback, users can improve their speaking skills in a virtual environment. The app can measure and score the user’s speaking performance via AI, natural language processing, and sentiment analysis methods. The sentiment analysis technology converts the user’s spoken words into text. Subsequently, it produces metrics such as pace, volume, intonation, and filler words, providing users with specific, constructive feedback. Moreover, users can record their speeches in video format, allowing them to watch the playback in conjunction with the speech analysis.

Key Features:

  • AI-driven training pathways for users.
  • Simulation of audiences of varying sizes and interest levels to provoke anxiety during speeches.
  • Sentiment analysis of content allows users to optimize their speeches.
  • Deep analysis of practice speeches to give users feedback on their pace, tone, cadence, and more factors that determine the quality of a speech.

The Mike app’s use case is significant for several reasons:

  • It addresses a real-world problem: Public speaking anxiety is a common issue that affects many individuals, and it can have a significant impact on their personal and professional lives. The app that Quantilus and B2 Ventures have developed addresses this problem by providing a virtual environment where users can practice and improve their speaking skills.
  • It utilizes cutting-edge technology: By integrating AI, natural language processing, and sentiment analysis, the app is able to provide users with detailed and accurate feedback on their speaking performance. This technology allows for a level of analysis and feedback that would not be possible with traditional methods.
  • It is accessible to a wide range of users: The app is designed to be accessible to users from all walks of life, regardless of their personal or professional goals. This means that the technology is being used to improve human capabilities in a way that is not limited to specific groups of people.
  • It can be beneficial for personal and professional development: The ability to speak confidently and effectively in public is a valuable skill that can be beneficial for personal and professional development. The app provides users with the opportunity to improve this skill in a safe and supportive environment.
  • It can improve the user’s overall experience in using the app: The sentiment analysis technology in this use case can provide users with more personalized and meaningful feedback. It can also help users to see the progress they have made and encourages them to continue practicing to achieve their goals.
